How to Build a Telegram Crypto Signal Bot with Python (2026)

Why a Telegram Signal Bot?

Telegram is the go-to platform for crypto traders. A custom signal bot lets you push real-time trade alerts, price triggers, and portfolio updates directly to your phone or group channel automatically, 24/7.

What You Will Build

By the end of this guide you will have a Python bot that monitors a crypto price feed, fires a buy or sell signal when your conditions are met, and sends a formatted Telegram message with entry price, TP, and SL levels.

Prerequisites

  • Python 3.10+
  • A Telegram Bot Token (from @BotFather)
  • A Binance or CoinGecko API key (free tier works)
  • Basic Python knowledge

Step 1 — Create Your Telegram Bot

Open Telegram, search for @BotFather, and send /newbot. Follow the prompts. Copy the API token. Next, get your chat ID by messaging your bot and calling the getUpdates endpoint.

Step 2 — Install Dependencies

pip install python-telegram-bot requests pandas

Step 3 — Fetch Live Price Data

Use CoinGecko for price data. Call the simple/price endpoint with your target symbol and parse the USD value from the JSON response.

Step 4 — Define Your Signal Logic

A simple RSI-based signal: collect the last 14 candles, compute average gain and loss, derive RSI. If RSI drops below 30, fire a BUY signal. If it exceeds 70, fire a SELL signal.

Step 5 — Send the Telegram Alert

Use the Telegram Bot API sendMessage endpoint. Format the message in Markdown with the signal direction, entry price, TP, and SL. Post it with a requests.post call.

Step 6 — Run the Bot in a Loop

Wrap everything in a while True loop with a time.sleep(300) pause between checks. This polls the price every 5 minutes and fires a message whenever the signal condition is met.

Deploy on a VPS

Run your bot 24/7 on a VPS such as DigitalOcean, Hetzner, or AWS Lightsail. Use pm2 or screen to keep it alive after SSH disconnect: pm2 start bot.py --interpreter python3

Extensions

  • Connect to MT5 to auto-execute signals
  • Add multiple pairs (ETH, SOL, BNB) with parallel threads
  • Integrate with TradingView webhooks so Pine Script triggers your bot
